Nintendo has announced it will change prices for the original Switch family of systems, including the first-generation Switch, Switch OLED, Switch Lite and select accessories.
The company cited “market conditions” for the US price changes, which will also affect accessories, select amiibo, and the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo. There’s been no confirmation about whether or not we’ll see price changes in the UK, too.
Thankfully, the Switch 2 console and its games will not be affected by the price increase – at least not yet. However, certain Nintendo Switch 2 accessories will see a price change – this could include the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera and Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller.
The original Switch is currently priced at $299.99, the Switch Lite at $199.99 and the Switch OLED at $349.99.
In Canada, the price changes take effect today (August 1) and will see the original Switch and Switch Lite go up by $20 CAD to $419.99 and $279.99, respectively. The Switch OLED will go up by $40 CAD to $419.99. Ouch.
Nintendo hasn’t revealed what the new prices for the original Switch systems in the U.S. will be, but as the changes are set to come in on August 3, it won’t be long until we find out how much you’ll have to spend to nab yourself a console.

The Switch 2 launched on June 5 and has been very popular. It’s priced at $450 or $500 if you want the Mario Kart World bundle in the U.S, and this high price has caused some concern among buyers.
Although in our Nintendo Switch 2 review, we felt the console still offers great value considering what came as part of the whole package. The Switch 2 improves on the original by upgrading the screen to a new 1080p 120Hz panel, adding in a new Nvidia chipset and improving the design.
I’ve had the Switch 2 for two weeks now, and here are my thoughts on battery life, screen, games and design.
-
Plenty of welcome screen upgrades -
Faster performance to give even classic Switch games an extra boost -
Sleek design
-
Poor battery life -
OLED would have been better -
Hefty price
