Woojer is expanding far beyond its vibrating vests and gaming straps with what it calls the world’s first haptic wellness mattress topper.

The new Woojer MAT is designed to improve sleep, ease pain, reduce stress and boost recovery, but the ambitious tech comes with a pretty hefty price tag.

At its core, the MAT looks like a yoga mat but is actually full-length vibroacoustic pad that sits on top of your bed like a mattress topper. It weighs just 4.5kg, uses a breathable air mesh fabric and can be packed away if you want to bring it to another room or take on a trip. The pitch is simple: instead of replacing your mattress with a pricey “smart bed,” you layer the MAT onto what you already have and reap the same high-tech rewards.

The tech behind it leans heavily on Woojer’s signature haptic system, the same audio-to-vibration transducers the brand built its reputation on. The MAT connects over Bluetooth, USB-C or AUX, pulls in audio from your headphones, speakers or the Woojer app, and converts it into full-body, low-frequency pulses. According to Woojer, and backed by existing research into vibroacoustic therapy, these deep vibrations can help settle the nervous system, ease muscle tension and support better rest.

How you use it depends on what you need. For sleep, the MAT can generate slow, gentle pulses designed to help you drift off. For recovery, it can run patterns that stimulate circulation in tired muscles after a workout. Or you can simply play music, movies or soundscapes and let the mat turn them into a more immersive relaxation session.

Sleep tech is still a relatively young category, and most “smart” mattresses cost far more than a standard bed setup, which is why something like the MAT will appeal to people who want the benefits without a full replacement. But that flexibility doesn’t make it cheap as the Woojer MAT will set you back £766 / $799. However, at the time of writing you can nab a £100 / $100 discount for early buyers.

Yes, it’s undeniably expensive for a mattress topper but with features traditional toppers can’t match, and a clearer focus on sleep and recovery than Woojer’s past products, it’s one of the more intriguing wellness gadgets to land this year.
