Tesla has just updated its Model 3 range by launching a new Model 3 Long Range Propulsionhis full name. As this name indicates, this car has endurance that can rival a certain number of thermal cars. Indeed, Elon Musk’s brand managed to pass the 700 kilometer mark on a single charge.
An economical car
The key to this engineering feat lies in the car’s fuel consumption. This new Model 3 displays consumption 12.5 kWh per 100 km. For comparison, the Model S and S Plaid, which were the brand’s benchmarks in this sector, display 17.5 and 18.9 kWh per 100 km.
This very low consumption was made possible by Tesla’s choice to place only one motor on the rear axle. It is powered by a large battery (79 kWh). Despite this economical engine, it is capable of going from 0 to 100 km in 5.2 seconds. It’s as fast as a Maserati Quattropporte (the one from the film Intouchables).
A Price still contained, but no bonus
With such technical characteristics, one would expect the price of this Model 3 to soar. But Tesla manages to contain it at 44 990 euros. Although the price may be frightening, it is actually quite competitive, especially on the European market. The only pitfall for this new Model 3 is that it does not benefit from the ecological bonus, like the Model Y, because it is built in China, in the Shanghai gigafactory.
Despite this government assistance, Tesla has high expectations with this car, and for good reason, it addresses one of the most widespread problems regarding electric cars: autonomy. By pulling this slider all the way up, Tesla hopes to appeal to a large audience, keen to go electric, but who does not want to sacrifice their freedom of movement.
Very fast charging
Especially since Tesla is tackling with this Model 3 another well-known problem with electric cars, recharging time. It was also revised by Elon Musk’s company to no longer be a nuisance. The American firm thus promises more than 250 kilometers of autonomy recovered in just 15 minutes.
With such data, we can imagine carrying out a Paris-Marseille with a single 10-minute break. When we know the road safety recommendations on the number of breaks to take during a long journey, we realize that the question of autonomy and recharging is no longer a handicap.
The new Tesla Model 3 Long Range Propulsion is sold 44 990 euros for 702 kilometers of autonomy. It takes an additional €3,800 for Autopilot (which allows you to change lanes and park automatically) or €7,500 for FSD (fully autonomous driving with recognition of traffic lights in particular).
