A new leak suggests that Xiaomi is pushing the boundaries of smartphone endurance, with one of its upcoming Redmi phones rumoured to feature a massive 9000mAh, and 100W fast charging to go with it.
According to tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo (via GSMArena), the company is reportedly testing this configuration for a future device, marking one of the largest power cells ever fitted inside a smartphone.
Xiaomi is also said to be working on a 10000mAh prototype, hinting at an even more extreme version in development.
While some sources speculate that the device in question could be the Redmi Turbo 5, that claim clashes with earlier reports suggesting a 7500mAh cell. Either way, if true, the 9000mAh unit would comfortably surpass most flagships, even outlasting the long-standing battery champs in the rugged phone space.
However, there’s a catch: it may never leave China in its full capacity form. In the past, Xiaomi’s Chinese models featuring high-density silicon-carbon batteries have launched internationally with smaller capacities. If the same pattern holds, global versions of the phone could see trimmed-down power specs.
The rumour has already sparked lively debate among tech enthusiasts on the post. Some users are thrilled at the idea of a phone lasting days on a single charge, calling it “more lithium battery equals more good” and jokingly urging Xiaomi to “bring it on.” Others, however, questioned the practicality of such a huge battery, pointing out potential safety concerns and added weight, while one commenter even wondered what would happen “if the phone explodes in your hands.”
There’s also scepticism about availability outside China. There’s a familiar frustration among global Xiaomi fans who often miss out on the brand’s most ambitious devices.
If Xiaomi really manages to fit a 9000mAh battery and 100W charging into a standard smartphone chassis, it could redefine what “all-day battery life” means. Still, until the company confirms the details, or hints at international availability, this power-packed phone remains a China-only dream.
