Sweden’s Atonemo has confirmed that its ultra-compact Streamplayer, designed to bring Hi-Res streaming to older speakers and amps, will finally launch next week after several months of delays.

The Atonemo Streamplayer, a compact Hi-Res audio streamer revealed earlier this year, is now set to launch in the coming weeks. The device was originally expected to arrive in the spring but faced several months of delay.

Designed to bring modern streaming capabilities to older audio setups, the Streamplayer offers a simple way to add wireless functionality to passive speakers, active speakers, amps or soundbars without built-in streaming. It’s ideal if you already have excellent speakers that are too good to replace, but you want to add a little bit of modern smarts to them.

It supports AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, and Tidal Connect, positioning it as a flexible upgrade for many.

Measuring 50 x 70 x 18.5mm, the Streamplayer is notably small, with a design that should easily blend into your existing setup. Its connectivity is equally straightforward, featuring a USB-C port for power, a 3.5mm analogue output and an S/PDIF digital output.

There is no onboard amplification, so users will need to pair it with powered speakers or an existing amplifier. Multi-room playback is supported when several units are used around the home, so you can turn your existing speakers

The streamer supports Wi-Fi 6 with WPA2 and WPA3 security and can handle audio up to 24-bit/192kHz, alongside gapless playback and a 10-band EQ accessible via the companion app. Some features appear to have changed since the original announcement, including Auracast, although whether this will be included remains to be seen.

The Streamplayer will be available in December, and it could be a perfect little Christmas gift for anyone you know who wants to add some smarts to their older speakers.
