It’s not the first turntable to embrace digital – vinyl players have been packing Bluetooth connectivity for years at this point – but the Mixx Analog+ goes one better, with a CD player built right into its record platter. Announced late last year, it has now gone on sale in the UK.

Unlike slot- or tray-loading two-in-ones, the Analog+ gives few clues to its secret second life once there’s an LP spinning merrily away up top. For the most part it’s a fully automatic, belt-driven turntable, with typical 33/45rpm playback and 7in/12in support.

As well as automatic cues and returns you get a few nice extras like automatic repeat play. Remote operation is a flex, letting you ‘skip’ vinyl tracks using the bundled remote control to move the tonearm forwards and backwards.

RCA and Bluetooth outputs let you pick between and wireless listening – just remember to supply your own speakers – and it ships with a tried-and-tested Audio-Technica AT3600L moving magnet cartridge.

Look a little closer, though, and you’ll spot the see-through CD top-loader hiding in plain sight in the centre of the record platter. An LCD display on the front panel showing track number and remaining time is another giveaway. The buttons alongside it handle playback, skip tracks, and activates shuffle.

It sounds like the only thing you can’t do from your sofa is pop the CD drawer. I’m guessing that’s to stop the Analog+ from accidentally flinging your LPs across the room, or colliding with the bundled dust cover if you’d left it down.

The overall appearance looks marvellously minimal, with the platter and tonearm sitting on a solid wood plinth finished in either black or white. The front panel is covered by a metal plate, with the buttons and LCD screen standing out in contrasting white-on-black. It’s shaping up to be a smart yet sensibly priced system for anyone with two sets of physical media.

The Mixx Analog+ is available to buy right now, in black or white colours, for £300. No word yet if there’ll be a US launch. It’s on sale via Amazon and direct from Mixx.
