This Unique Lexar SSD for iPhone Video Hounds Just Hit $199 for Prime Day, and I’m Stoked

My favorite Prime Day storage deal is the Lexar Professional Go SSD With Hub, a tiny, modular SSD. Amazon is offering it for $199.99—a 33% markdown from its list price of $299.99, and $20 off what it was earlier in this Prime Day week. Bundled with an equally minuscule USB-C hub, the Go’s forte is facilitating iPhone videography, letting you record and save 4K video in Apple’s ProRes format directly to the drive and conserving your phone’s precious disk space. The hub included with this deal lets you connect the phone, drive, and two other inputs (perhaps a power bank and microphone) to enhance your iPhone-centered videography setup.

This 2TB drive, which I reviewed and pinned an Editors’ Choice award onto, is among the smallest SSDs I’ve seen. It measures a mere 0.3 by 1.0 by 1.7 inches (HWD) and is featherweight at 0.5 ounce.

Bundled with the version of the Go featured in our deal is a minuscule hub bristling with four USB-C ports. (The SSD, as well as the hub itself, are also available separately.) You can connect the SSD to a recent iPhone’s USB-C port using the Go’s male connector (the first I’ve seen on an external drive) or an included adapter that lets the drive rest tucked against the back of your phone. Or, using the hub, you can connect your iPhone, say, to the drive, a power bank or adapter (the hub supports up to 30 watts of USB power delivery), and an external microphone.

The Go lets you easily shoot and record 4K video in Apple’s ProRes format. Models going back to the iPhone 13 support filming in ProRes, but you could not record directly to an external drive without a Lightning adapter until the company included a USB-C port with the iPhone 15. Particularly with 4K ProRes video at 60fps (starting with the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max) and 120fps (with the iPhone 16 Pro models), recording can quickly consume your disk space, especially if you don’t have a full terabyte of storage on your iPhone. It’s more convenient to record that video straight to an external drive, and it saves you the recurring cost of an iCloud+ subscription.

The Lexar Professional Go is also handy for everyday storage for Apple and Android mobile devices, and it can plug directly into a computer’s USB-C port for a cable-free solution. But its forte is iPhone videography, whether you’re shooting home movies, travel videos, documentaries, or hoping to be the next Stephen Spielberg or Sofia Coppola. Although you may not get a chance to thank the Academy, I can assure you that the Go—plus its hub—will greatly enhance your iPhone videography, and this Prime Day, you can get it through Amazon for a 33% discount.
