Many in the US awoke on Monday to see their online tools weren’t working after an Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage. Some found out even earlier in the day after their smart mattress tech malfunctioned.

Those with Eight Sleep smart bed tech found their heated protectors weren’t able to change temperature due to the outage. Some with Eight Sleep’s top-end tech found their bed was stuck in an upright position.

Eight Sleep CEO, Matteo Franceschetti, took to X to apologize saying it’s “not the experience we want to provide.” The brand has also began work on “outage-proofing” for future issues, and said it would be “working tonight-24/7 until that is done.” Franceschetti says that will be ready by the end of Oct. 22.

X user Isaiah Granet found their mattress was over nine degrees higher than they wanted it to be as they were unable to reduce the temperature after preheating their bed. Another user, called Art Levy, said they were awoken at 2 a.m. with the bed at 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

One user, called Blake McCreary, said their product was unusable suggesting they may have removed it from the bed to be able to sleep. Another X user called Brandon said, “Would be great if my bed wasn’t stuck in an inclined position due to an AWS outage.”

Franceschetti confirmed all the ongoing issues were fixed for customers by 10 p.m. ET on Oct. 20.

Eight Sleep’s cheapest tech is the Pod 4 mattress cover for $2,649. The newer Pod 5 Core alternative costs $3,049 with both cooling and heating tech that can be set for each side of the bed. It also includes vibrations for alarms and sleep tracking tech.

There’s also a top-end package with a mattress included designed for back pressure relief and to help you snore less. That costs $5,049, and it’s called the Pod 5 Ultra.

The AWS outage earlier this week saw many companies suffer from issues with reported problems across Canva, Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu, Lyft, Reddit, Roku, Signal, Snapchat, and many more. Amazon says the problems came from a Domain Name System resolution issue, and said it would soon provide a detailed report of what happened.
