Today's NYT Connections Hints, Answers for Jan. 19 #953

Today’s NYT Connections puzzle is super hard, I thought. I didn’t even know what the blue group theme was, and the green one used an emoji for its title, which is odd. Read on for clues and today’s Connections answers.

The Times has a Connections Bot, like the one for Wordle. Go there after you play to receive a numeric score and to have the program analyze your answers. Players who are registered with the Times Games section can now nerd out by following their progress, including the number of puzzles completed, win rate, number of times they nabbed a perfect score and their win streak.

Hints for today’s Connections groups

Here are four hints for the groupings in today’s Connections puzzle, ranked from the easiest yellow group to the tough (and sometimes bizarre) purple group.

Yellow group hint: Like a rookie.

Green group hint: Big bucks.

Blue group hint: Think about measurement.

Purple group hint: Not slow.

Answers for today’s Connections groups

Yellow group: Inexperienced.

Green group: Money-faced emoji.

Blue group: Measured by SI units.

Purple group: Words after “quick.”

The green words in today’s Connections

The theme is the money-faced emoji. The four answers are bundle, fortune, mint and wad.

The blue words in today’s Connections

The theme is measured by SI units. The four answers are current, length, mass and time.

The purple words in today’s Connections

The theme is words after “quick.” The four answers are fix, sand, silver and study.
