Watching all of it would take you a ton of time, so I decided to start my Friday by recommending three top picks for the weekend and week to come. Almost Cops (July 11)
Fans of Hot Fuzz should check out this new Dutch action-comedy, which pairs a dedicated but distracted community service officer with a disgraced ex-detective to track down a killer stalking the streets of Rotterdam. While it’s not groundbreaking, Almost Cops packs plenty of laughs and spine-tingling set pieces, perfect for a summer flick.

Apocalypse in the Tropics (July 14)
Brazil’s political situation has some interesting parallels to the US, most notably how evangelical Christians have captured a surprising amount of power in the halls of government. Academy Award-nominated director Petra Costa’s new documentary, Apocalypse in the Tropics, dives deep into the country’s religious life, with exclusive interviews with powerful people, including the nation’s current and former presidents.

Trainwreck: Balloon Boy (July 15)
In October 2009, a breaking news story captivated the nation. A huge silver helium balloon floated in the sky above Fort Collins, Colo., allegedly carrying a 6-year-old boy, trapped and fearing for his life. News organizations tracked “Balloon Boy” until the craft landed, only to find no kid inside. The ensuing scandal got weird, and this new documentary dives deep into the wild world of the hoaxers.
