According to Chiefs team reporter Matt McMullen, the Chiefs are beginning “Phase 2” of their offseason training program.
This progression permits individual and positional group drills on the field.
While it is a step forward, training still doesn’t involve pads or doing offense versus defense drills.
It is yet another round of training before attendance becomes mandatory for the Chiefs.
Mahomes and Kelce still have a while to go before they are required to show up at training camp.
Chiefs mandatory minicamp starts on June 17, and attendance is mandatory.
There is no indication that either one will skip training camp, but they aren’t making an effort to show up early.
Neither one really has anything left to prove. Kelce is playing his 13th and likely final season, and Mahomes is entering year eight as the Chiefs’ starting quarterback.
The two have been enjoying their time off from football after a disappointing loss in the Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Kelce instantly jetted off for vacation with his girlfriend Taylor Swift after the loss.
He spent most of his offseason in hiding, making very few public appearances up until the last two weeks.
Kelce emerged from hiding to attend a golf tournament with his brother in Las Vegas.
The tight end played alongside celebrities like Justin Timberlake before heading to the strip.
From there, the Kelce brothers partook in some poker games on the Vegas strip.
Mahomes has been out and about with his family during the offseason.
