The Treasury has created a new role to offer entrepreneurs a direct line to the government.
Alex Depledge MBE, founder of proptech start-up Resi, will be the first to hold the title of Entrepreneurship Adviser which will involve liaising with the start-up community to provide expert insight to the department.
“We have a long list of successful startups, scale ups and small businesses across the UK – with the greatest density of scale ups among the seven major industrial countries in the G7,” said Chancellor Rachel Reeves.
“Having Alex on the team will bring invaluable expertise with her experience building successful businesses from the ground up, and I look forward to working with her.”
Depledge founded Resi in 2016, with the company eventually raising over £7.5m, including an investment from ITV.
She previously founded Hassle, a digital marketplace for domestic cleaning professionals that is valued by Dealroom at $35m (£26m).
“I’m honoured to be appointed as the Chancellor’s first-ever Entrepreneurship Advisor, a ground-breaking move that puts high-growth businesses at the heart of economic thinking,” Depledge said.
“This is a chance to rewrite the playbook on how we support entrepreneurs, and I am here to make sure we take full advantage of it.”
Depledge previously sat on a female entrepreneur government task force.
