TSMC is set to begin mass production of its 2nm process node, marking a new era in semiconductor manufacturing, according to Taiwanese media outlet Commercial Times. Supply chain sources suggest that the cost of bringing the 2nm process from the R&D (research and development) phase to mass production has reached $725 million. The foundry price per 2nm wafer will rise to $30,000, while the next-generation 1.4nm process is expected to command up to $45,000 per wafer. By the end of this year, TSMC’s monthly 2nm production capacity may hit 30,000 wafers, the report said. Currently, major tech firms including Apple, MediaTek, Qualcomm, AMD, Microsoft, Amazon, and Google have booked TSMC’s 2nm production capacity. [Commercial Times, in Chinese]
