Google Maps is one of the most used GPS navigation applications in the world. This popularity does not prevent it from being imperfect. Users have been calling for the addition of several features for years, particularly in connection with Android Auto, the on-board system in certain recent cars transforming the dashboard into a screen remote from your smartphone.
This bridge allows you to safely consult applications such as Google Maps, music or even the telephone and thus make calls. In order to make the user experience even better, Google has just updated Maps, with two new features, expected to say the least.
Accident detection
Last year Google Maps added a major feature. It was now possible to report accidents on the application in order to warn other users and reduce the risk of a pileup. This feature, long exclusive to Waze (a competing application), has been awaited for years by Google Maps users.
But when this feature was launched, many users complained. The “report” button simply did not appear on the small on-board screens. A calibration error that Google has (finally) corrected. The button should therefore appear, even on small screens of 7 to 8 inches.
A new way to search
But Google didn’t stop there. The firm has also revised its search bar. Until now, it suggested that users go to their home or work by default, when these two addresses were registered by the user. But that is no longer the case. In order not to clutter the screen, Google simply offers a classic search bar.
By pressing on it, the user will then see their last destinations as well as their favorite addresses and those saved. They are grouped in two separate menus, on the left of the screen. With this new feature, Google hopes to attract users and make the application easier to handle in Android Auto.
How to take advantage of these new features?
If you don’t yet have access to these two new features on your side, don’t panic. Google is rolling out these features step by step on the server side. The digital giant wants to take its time to ensure that no bug disrupts its users’ experience.
