MEAL-TOTING robots will soon be making deliveries to British front doors in a matter of weeks.

Uber Eats has vowed to begin deploying autonomous delivery droids in two UK cities “before the end of the year”.

The food giant has teamed up with a robotics company called Starship Technologies.

And they’re working together on a global rollout of Uber Eats food-bots, beginning in the UK this year – before moving on to Europe in 2026 and the US in 2027.

Starship’s robots aren’t new, and the company says that it has worked with other brands for more than “9 million deliveries across seven countries”.

And the Uber Eats partnership is due to kick off in Sheffield and Leeds imminently.

“Autonomous delivery is an exciting part of how we see the future of Uber Eats,” said Sarfraz Maredia, Uber’s Global Head of Autonomous.

“Together with Starship, we’re bringing this future to life across multiple continents.”

And Sarfraz added that it would “deliver efficient and affordable experiences” for Uber users.

The first bots will come to Leeds in December 2025, and will operate at “level 4 autonomy”.

That means that they can operate completely independently without needing constant human oversight.

According to Starship, the robots will be able to complete deliveries “in under 30 minutes”.

And they’ll be able to deliver to addresses as far as two miles away.

“Together, we’re building the infrastructure that will define the next generation of urban logistics,” said Starship boss Ahti Heinla.

“Uber Eats has built the world’s leading delivery platform, with the widest reach, trusted by millions across 10,000 cities. We bring scalable autonomous technology that works profitably at city scale.”

Normally it’s possible to tip Uber drivers – but there’ll be no option to reward the robots, beyond the usual delivery fee.

Starship robots are already operating in the UK, but not for Uber Eats.

The company has worked with Co-op to offer deliveries in several cities, including Milton Keynes.

But the new robots will only make Uber Eats deliveries – and will be branded with the company’s logo.

And they’ll be able to operate without direct human intervention.

“Starship robots are 99% autonomous,” Starship explained.

“They learn with every journey – and they’ve safely completed millions more deliveries than any competitor.

“Our robots deliver hot food, groceries and industrial supplies, using a combination of radars, cameras, sensors and machine learning to identify objects and navigate the world around them.”

According to Starship, it has worked with the following brands:

And the company says that its average global delivery time from store to customer is just 15 minutes.
