Could the next Ubisoft game be a new license offering a game halfway between Minecraft et Animal Crossing ? According to les sources d’Insider Gamingthat is indeed the case. The project codenamed « Alterra » has been in development for over 18 months.
Alterra, Ubisoft’s next ambitious project?
According to Insider Gaming sources, Ubisoft is currently developing a new game using the codes d’Animal Crossing and of Minecraft. Obviously, it is Ubisoft Montreal (Assassin’s Creed) which would be in charge of the projectwith Patrick Redding, the former creative director of Gotham Knights as production manager.
Still according to Insider Gaming sources, the Alterra project was born from the ashes of another ambitious project from Ubisoft which was reportedly canceled after four years of development. Alterra is described as a “Animal Crossing-inspired social simulation”. The game would immerse players on an island populated by NPCs known as Matterlings. These would look like « des figurines Funko Pop »with big heads and designs mixing fictional and real creatures, from polar bears to dragons.
The Alterra project would also offer un fort aspect social allowing the aforementioned voxel creation. The title would thus offer construction mechanisms “somewhat similar” to those seen in Minecraft. Players could thus create objects using resources discoveries in the world beyond their home. The island on which the game will take place should offer multiple biomes with specific resourcesdifferent types of Matterlings, as well as enemies and other unique materials.
Finally, and still according to Insider Gaming’s sources, Fabien Lhéraud, Ubisoft veteran, would occupy the position of main producer on Alterra. The launch of the project would not be planned before “a few years”.
