As artificial intelligence agents become a part of the business workflow, the orchestration of all the different human and nonhuman components grows more complex.
Business automation platform company UiPath Inc. aims to simplify the process of building autonomous agents for enterprise. It supports multiple frameworks, including LlamaIndex Inc., which offers a toolkit for developing AI agents based on contextual data.
UiPath’s Taqi Jaffri and LlamaIndex’s Jerry Liu discuss agentic AI with theCUBE.
“People think orchestration is just stitching together different systems and calling it a day,” said Taqi Jaffri (pictured, left), senior director of product management at UiPath. “It’s not. We use a lot of underlying tech to make all that seamless to the developer and that, to me, is the heart of orchestration. We want to make it simple to the developer.”
Liu and Jerry Liu (right), co-founder and chief executive officer of LlamaIndex Inc., spoke with theCUBE’s Dave Vellante and Rebecca Knight at UiPath Fusion, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, News Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed the development of natural language programming and what’s next for their respective platforms. (* Disclosure below.)
The ‘Maestro’ of AI orchestration
“Vibe coding,” or coding with AI prompts, is gaining popularity as experts see the potential for a greater range of employees to create custom workflows. There are “pitfalls” to this method, according to Liu, who suggests that coding with English might not produce useful results without the right constraints. Nonetheless, he predicts it will have a democratizing effect.
“The gap between developers and non-developers is closing,” he said. “We’re hired solutions engineers who honestly have not had deep coding experience before, but they’re able to build extremely powerful applications with Cursor. We have Fortune 500 customers that are building applications Quadcode and Cursor, and these are business users not developers.”
UiPath and LlamaIndex’s work is aimed at creating a natural language interface that acts as a constrained but high-accuracy layer for generating different types of automation. LlamaIndex, which started as an open-source framework to connect AI models with private data, has evolved into a connector of the enterprise data ecosystem.
“There’s still a clear need for agents to connect to the right set of tools to actually load in the relevant context,” Liu said. “There’s a real question of how do you actually inject the right context into these models so that users can get value out of it? The core need for every enterprise today is not to just depend on the raw reasoning capabilities of these models, but to use it with their own data.”
This week, UiPath unveiled a series of enhancements to UiPath Maestro, a development and orchestration suite for high-volume business processes such as claims, disputes and loans. The company also announced the launch of Maestro Process Apps, which helps users analyze their workflows and improve efficiency.
“We want people to be able to build agents however they want,” Jaffri said. “There’s so much innovation out there that we don’t want to hold back from our customers. We want our customers to be able to build agents using LlamaIndex or any other system that’s out there that they feel an affinity to. Now where we add value … is with Maestro.”
