British climate tech startups Cusp AI, Fuse Energy and BeyondMath are among a cohort of 23 firms selected for an AWS-backed fellowship programme.
The Compute Climate Fellowship is an international programme to fund the creation of new technologies working to combat the climate crisis.
Participants will be given access to AWS’s cloud computing and AI tech stacks to support the development of their products and services.
Along with AWS, the programme is being run by the International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI), a UNESCO-supported organisation.
“At IRCAI, we remain steadfast in our belief that the climate crisis demands bold, interdisciplinary solutions,” said chief operating officer Davor Orlic.
“With this year’s cohort, we are deepening public-private partnerships that unite industry, government, and research to harness AI for climate action.
“Anchored in cutting-edge compute, rigorous R&D, and world-class talent, we are excited to support startups driving real, scalable solutions with the power to make a transformative impact for our planet.”
Startups from six countries have been selected for this year’s cohort, including five from the UK.
Among them is Cusp AI, which is developing an AI-powered search engine-style system for the discovery of advanced, sustainable materials. The company secured a £24m funding round last year.
Also selected is Fuse Energy, a fully integrated renewable energy group, BeyondMath, which is developing foundational models to support advanced engineering and Climate X, an AI platform that simulates climate risks and adaptation strategies.
“The intersection of climate innovation and generative AI is no longer theoretical–it’s happening now, and it’s reshaping what’s possible,” said Jon Jones, vice president and global head of startups at AWS.
“This fellowship is about fuelling this momentum by backing solutions with the potential to drive systemic change, whether it’s advancing breakthroughs in clean energy and carbon capture, monitoring ecosystems and infrastructure at scale, or reimagining agriculture and manufacturing for a zero-waste future.”
