After an EpicBoom that we didn’t necessarily find Epic, Ultimate Ears is back with a new speaker that is more compact but more versatile and that can be carried more easily with you, thanks to its IP67 certification already but also thanks to its weight which falls below the kilo mark. Announced last week, theUltimate Ears EverBoom did not arrive alone and is accompanied by the entire update of the range with also the Wonderboom 4, Boom 4 and Megaboom 4.
“Our users have dynamic lifestyles that require a soundtrack that is as flexible and resilient as their diverse activities,” said Jonah Staw, CEO of Ultimate Ears. “The EverBoom is our answer to their need for a portable speaker that combines ruggedness with high-quality sound. It’s meant to be at the heart of their explorations.”

Today, we are interested in the new Ultimate Ears EverBoom, a new Bluetooth speaker which takes up the aesthetic codes of the Swiss brand’s speakers. With 58% durable materials, the EverBoom is IP67 certified, making it water and dust resistant. It is also waterproof and floating. Delivered with a carabiner, it weighs less than a kilo, which makes it transportable almost anywhere, especially with its autonomy of up to 20 hours and a range of around fifty meters. We also find support for the UE Boom application which brings a new functionality and not the least. Indeed, Ultimate Ears brings the MegaPhone function which allows you to speak from your smartphone and have your voice projected onto the relevant speakers. We remind you that the application is capable of linking several Ultimate Ears speakers with Party Up mode and thus projecting the same sound on the connected speakers. The advantage is that you don’t have to have the same speaker, you can therefore pair any speaker from the brand, which amplifies the sound power in the same place.

And the sound in all this? It is true that we had been somewhat cooled with the EpicBoom (See our test HERE) and we were afraid that it would be the same thing but with less power. Fortunately, for us but also for Ultimate Ears, this is not the case. Indeed, the EverBoom offers a complete sound with present bass. And this is even more the case outdoors with 360° sound. Note that the maximum power is set at 90dB and that the EverBoom offers an “Outdoor” mode which allows you to boost the frequencies used outdoors and not all frequencies. Clever. Afterwards, you can always equalize the sounds in the dedicated application. We will thus note presets which may prove useful depending on its uses. Between boosting the bass or adjusting it to better highlight the voice, the user is spoiled for choice. On the other hand, we were somewhat disappointed with the audio quality indoors. Indeed, if 360° sound makes sense outdoors, it’s a little more clutter indoors and we would have a more directional sound!
We end with the controls found on the top of the speaker. The volume buttons are on the front while above is a button in the shape of a tree. In addition to the classic controls, this button allows you to automatically launch your own audio selection from your smartphone. For example, simply link the button to a playlist in Apple Music, Amazon Music or Spotify, and when you press the button for a long time, it will launch the speaker and the audio source. Practical.
