AN iPhone that’s less than a year old has had its price dramatically slashed to just £479.

The model was the cheapest of Apple‘s 2025 line-up – and it’s now an even thriftier buy.

Apple launched the iPhone 16e back in February 2025.

The gadget was intended to be a cheaper add-on to 2024’s iPhone 16 line-up.

Its official retail price is £599, but Amazon is currently selling it for just £479, which is a rare 20% price cut for an iPhone.

The iPhone 17, which is the newer entry-level model, costs £799.

So this is a great option if you’re looking for a new iPhone model on a budget.

It has a solid battery life and a very respectable camera.

But it’s outed as being a slightly lower-end model due to the notch at the top of the screen, instead of the floating Dynamic Island.

However, it’s packing plenty of tech and also supports Apple Intelligence AI features, which even 2023’s iPhone 15 misses out on.

This particular unit comes in white (the black model is £20 more on Amazon), and has the base 128GB storage.

It spots a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display with a 2,532 x 1,170-pixel resolution.

Importantly, it’s an OLED screen, which means that the pixels can light up on their own without a backlight.

That means individual pixels can turn off to show true black, with the screen allowing for better contrast and a wider range of colours.

The mobile is powered by a fairly nippy A18 chip, and there’s a 48-megapixel camera on board.

It charges with a USB-C connector, and has a Face ID scanner for quick unlocking and payment authentication.

It’s worth mentioning that Apple might replace this model with an iPhone 17e in the near future.

THE REAL APPLE MONEY-SAVER

Wait! There’s a clever way to bag a cheap iPhone…

Apple has an oft-forgotten Certified Refurbished store.

And you can get seriously cut-price iPhones there.

Many models are hundreds of pounds off their original listing prices.

And they go through a full restoration process so you’re not getting rubbish.

“You will receive a refurbished device with genuine Apple replacement parts (as needed) that has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected,” Apple explains.

“Refurbished iOS devices will come with new battery and outer shell. Every device will come with all accessories, cables and operating systems.

“All Apple Certified Refurbished products are packaged in a brand-new white box and will be sent to you with free shipping and returns.”

You can find it here.

However, no official plans for this have been revealed.

On top of that, it’s extremely unlikely that an iPhone 17e would cost £479, so this is still a great budget choice.
