Verizon launches new, affordable ‘Lite’ home internet plan – 9to5Mac

Verizon has just announced an entirely new ‘Lite’ home internet plan available for customers. Here are the details.

Verizon’s ‘Home Internet Lite’ plan offers relatively low download speeds, but wider availability

Today Verizon is adding to its various home internet options in an effort to provide two things:

1. Lower pricing
2. Coverage for areas with few other options

Verizon’s “Home Internet Lite” plan isn’t intended for everyone. But if your other internet options aren’t great, it seems like a solid new offering.

Essentially, the new ‘Lite’ plan provides 5G home internet that’s capped at fairly low download speeds of up to 25 Mbps.

But it comes with the convenience of a potentially lower bill, and availability in places where few other internet options can be found.

Per Verizon’s press release, the highlights include:

• Flexibility & Savings: “Priced as low as $25/month for a limited time, Verizon mobile customers can lock in their VHI Lite monthly price for three years with our price guarantee”
• America’s Best 5G Network: “The plan provides dependable download speeds of up to 25 Mbps (typical 10-25 Mbps)”
• Unmatched Support & Simple Setup: “A free router is included for a simple, out-of-the-box self-setup.“

I mentioned that the new plan offers “potentially” a lower bill because it all depends on the discounts you receive.

The base price for the plan is $60/month. However, three possible discounts can bring the total down to $25. Those include: $10 off for paperless billing, $15 off for Verizon mobile customers, and another $10 off in a three-year price lock.

9to5Mac’s Take

I suspect the biggest downside for many prospective customers will be the max download speed of 25 Mbps. But if you’re just doing basic browsing and streaming in a household of 1-2 people, that may not be a problem for you.

Perhaps not so coincidentally, one of Verizon’s biggest competitors—AT&T—just raised prices on all its home internet plans last week.
