A man has vomited his way to worldwide renown after setting the record for longest VR video-game marathon.
Derek Westerman spent an incredible 25 hours in virtual reality on 7 April and, by all accounts, had a really terrible time.
Westerman’s headset of choice was the HTC Vive, which comes with the warning:
“Prolonged, uninterrupted use of the product should be avoided. It may negatively impact hand-eye coordination, balance, and /or cause other negative effects. While using the product frequently and for prolonged periods of time, you may experience tiredness or soreness in your muscles, joints, or other body parts.”
It also warns users to stop using the headset if they suffer nausea. Obviously.

A Timeline of VR Depravity
25 hours remain: Derek is playing with Google’s TiltBrush. Cool, right? All’s well with 25 hours to go.
22 hours remain: He’s lying on the floor already, making whooshy noises.
19 hours remain: Derek needs to pee. But despite the headset, he manages urination with surprising ease. We’re not convinced about his handset hygiene, mind.
16 hours to go: A friend has to physically insert pizza into Derek’s mouth. He then dribbles water down himself while drinking from a bottle hands-free. Yuck.
15 hours to go: “I don’t feel good.”
8 hours to go: Derek empties the contents of his stomach into a bucket.
4 hours to go: “I don’t know where I’m at, I don’t know where I’m at.” You’re on the floor, Derek.
0 hours to go: The headset comes off. “That f***ing sucked.” But it’s okay Derek – you’re a world record holder! Now wipe those carrot chunks off your controllers.
