Version 1.4.327 of the Vulkan API specification was released on Friday and with it comes one new extension, which is a Valve vendor extension.

The new Vulkan 1.4.327 extension is VK_VALVE_video_encode_rgb_conversion that comes thanks to Valve’s engaging work around Linux and the open-source community. VK_VALVE_video_encode_rgb_conversion builds on the VK_KHR_video_encode_queue extension of Vulkan Video and enables applications to pass RGB/RGBA images in video encoding operations. This will presumably come in handy for Valve’s Steam Link casting type purposes and more.

The VK_VALVE_video_encode_rgb_conversion extension was worked on by Autumn Ashton of Valve as well as Daniel Rakos of RasterGrid.

More details on the new Valve video encode RGB encode conversion extension and other changes in Vulkan 1.4.327 via this GitHub commit.
