The thing about live demos is that, well, they’re live. And going live can bring up all sorts of unexpected issues. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg learned that lesson the hard way on Wednesday while attempting to show off the company’s new Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses.

The glasses failed spectacularly during live demos at Meta Connect, including one where Zuck himself was left scrambling to fill the awkward silence as a planned phone call never materialized. It’s difficult to overstate how awkward the Zuckerberg demo gets. Take a look at this cringey nightmare.

And, unfortunately for Meta, that wasn’t the only disastrous live demo on Wednesday night. The company tried to show off its live AI capabilities by doing a live cooking demo. The Ray-Ban Display glasses got irreparably stuck trying to make a sauce. The glasses couldn’t seem to figure out what was actually going on in front of its cameras. And yes, it was also very awkward.

It could turn out that consumers love these glasses (the early reviews are very positive), and that they work seamlessly in real life. But the failed Zuckerberg demos on Wednesday were certainly not a great sign for a product that’ll run you $799.99.
