Desktop virtualization is experiencing one of its best moments. After the pandemic and with thousands of people forced to work remotely, the popularization of this type of solutions has skyrocketed. But as he tells us Fernando FeliuExecutive Managing Director of Virtual Cable, the possibilities of this type of solutions go much further, responding, for example, to the need to manage different offices in a unified way, work with different local regulations, or get the most out of intelligence artificial. This is what he told us.
(MCPRO) Your solution is capable of managing multiple locations in different countries: how does it ensure centralized and efficient management of workstations while maintaining local regulatory compliance?
(Fernando Feliu) UDS Enterprise allows you to securely and easily manage workstations at all headquarters through a single administration panel accessible from any web browser. IT administrators monitor and control the activity of users in different countries, and are able to apply updates, security patches, or, for example, install new programs and applications centrally.
As we are perfectly aware that each employee has specific needs, with UDS Enterprise the administration of jobs can be divided into profiles depending on their functions and needs. In this way, it is possible to deliver each user the exact programs they need with the best performance, whether through virtual desktops, virtualized applications or through remote access to office computers.
This flexibility also applies in the field of security, since each organization can decide what policies and configurations it implements for each location, ensuring that all local regulations are respected without compromising operational efficiency. This approach simplifies administration, while improving agility and compliance with each country’s regulations.
“To facilitate international access to our solutions, we have intensified our presence in the marketplaces of the main hyperscalers”
(MCPRO) What are the main features and advantages that the solution offers for this multi-site deployment?
(Fernando Feliu) Among its many benefits, I would highlight the integrated security, with measures such as multi-factor authentication (MFA), zero trust or end-to-end encryption, which guarantee the consistency of the data and computer systems of all delegations.
Another key aspect is its scalability, which facilitates the immediate deployment of jobs regardless of the location of the employees, adjusting costs to the real number of users at any given time. Its ability to perform automatic and intelligent overflows facilitates the combination of on-premise platforms and clouds located in different regions, optimizing resources, performance and latency. Furthermore, the high availability of its components guarantees business continuity even in the event of failures at a specific location. Finally, the flexibility and customization capacity of our tool allows it to be adapted to the business requirements of each delegation.
(MCPRO) At a time when the company is growing internationally, what are the main challenges and opportunities that you have identified in the process? What are the next steps in this international expansion?
(Fernando Feliu) A major challenge is expanding our support service to serve new markets, something we have already solved by launching premium editions of our solutions, including 24/7 support.
On the other hand, it is a great opportunity to expand our channel, collaborating with local partners, as well as with our certified partners and wholesalers who have branches in other countries. To facilitate international access to our solutions, we have intensified our presence in the marketplaces of the main hyperscalers, which offers advantages such as greater scalability and reduced latency. This guarantees fluid and efficient access to our solutions from anywhere in the world.
Our approach is to strengthen our strategic alliances and with manufacturers to facilitate the entry of UDS Enterprise into new markets and consolidate our presence both in Portugal, Italy and LATAM as well as in the rest of the countries.
(MCPRO) Sectors such as health, education, industry or retail have different characteristics and regulatory requirements. How does Virtual Cable work to adapt to different scenarios? How is a solution promoted to be transversal?
(Fernando Feliu) Virtual Cable is distinguished by its flexibility, a key characteristic that allows us to adjust our digital workplace solution to the needs of each sector or department. Our philosophy has always been to offer an open and configurable alternative, avoiding dependence on manufacturers. For this reason, we base UDS Enterprise on open source and spend time understanding the particularities of the different sectors.
To ensure that our solution is effective in any scenario, we continually work on its evolution. We maintain an open roadmap that adjusts to the requests of our user community. This ability to adapt ensures that it not only adjusts to the regulations and demands of each sector, but also that it is transversal and evolves along with the changing demands of our clients.
“We facilitate the deployment of jobs immediately regardless of the location of the employees”
(MCPRO) Companies historically consolidated in workplace virtualization, such as Citrix or VMware, are currently pivoting part of their business model. How does this affect Virtual Cable when it comes to presenting itself as a solid alternative in this field?
(Fernando Feliu) Our extensive history and multiple implementations in organizations at a national and international level position us as the most reliable and secure alternative for workplace virtualization.
Many clients have already migrated from Citrix and VMware to UDS Enterprise, achieving a simple, fast and transparent transition for users. This seamless transfer of services is allowing our competitors’ historical partners to now form part of our certified channel, supporting our position as the best option in an evolving market.
(MCPRO) What features make Virtual Cable’s solution more interesting to customers compared to what the competition offers?
(Fernando Feliu) The Virtual Cable solution stands out for its flexibility, security and customization possibilities. Unlike our competitors, we offer a highly configurable platform, compatible with any third-party technology, that adapts to the specific requirements of each project. The client has complete freedom to choose the best option: deploy virtual desktops, virtualized applications, or enable remote access to the physical equipment in their offices. And you can combine all the options without an increase in cost.
The same happens with the deployment model, which can be on premise, multicloud or hybrid, and with the choice of all the elements of your infrastructure. You can choose, for example, an open source virtualization platform, a high-performance protocol and an IP authentication system. As I say, it is just an example, since you can choose and simultaneously enable all the technologies you want to create an infrastructure completely tailored to you.
“Automation is one of the key features of UDS Enterprise, which helps centralize and simplify the deployment, maintenance and complete management of the digital work environment”
(MCPRO) What role does artificial intelligence and automation play in Virtual Cable solutions?
(Fernando Feliu) Automation is one of the key features of UDS Enterprise, which helps centralize and simplify the deployment, maintenance and complete management of the digital work environment.
Our solution already has intelligent functionalities, such as automatic self-cleaning of services, intelligent overflows between on-premise and cloud platforms to optimize resources, task automation to improve the stability and efficiency of the environment, and intelligent service caching, which automatically adjusts the creation of services, adapting to the work habits of users. These improvements optimize operation and minimize human intervention. Additionally, we are collaborating with technology partners, such as Ironchip, to incorporate additional innovations in AI, including advanced authentication systems.
(MCPRO) How does Virtual Cable see the evolution of the workplace virtualization solutions market in the coming years?
(Fernando Feliu) Based on our experience and the constant feedback we receive from partners and customers, the workplace virtualization market will evolve towards greater demand for flexible solutions. Organizations are increasingly looking for alternatives that allow them to avoid the complications they are facing with traditional providers, whose recent changes in policies and prices are creating difficulties.
On the other hand, the latest INE Active Population Survey reflects that 1 in 4 people in Spain already teleworks totally or partially, which means that the hybrid model is consolidated, with employees dividing their time between the office and remote work. This underlines the growing demand for secure and intelligent solutions that prioritize the user experience and offer an efficient environment adaptable to the present and future strategies of each organization.
