On Friday, WeChat announced that its Mini Programs will support virtual payment functionality on iOS, with Apple reducing its commission rate to 15%. Previously, iOS Mini Programs faced long-standing restrictions on virtual payments due to Apple’s ecosystem rules, affecting both user experience and developer revenue. This adjustment comes as part of Apple’s new Mini Program Partner Program, which aims to attract platforms like WeChat by offering lower commission rates. The move not only provides developers with better revenue-sharing conditions but also optimizes the iOS Mini Program ecosystem and encourages growth in digital content consumption. The collaboration marks a strategic shift in Apple’s approach to the Chinese market. [WeChat, in Chinese]
