Western Digital is going to recover its G-Drive brand to identify its range of high-capacity, high-performance professional external hard drives that until now have been marketed under the SanDisk Professional brand. The G-Drive brand, which will be represented by the G logo, will include desktop drives, portable drives and multi-bay RAID systems.

These units are designed for demanding workflows in creative areas such as high-resolution photography, video production, audio editing or graphic design. The transition of drives currently on sale as SanDisk Professional to G-Drive will begin later this month.

Western Digital’s G-Drive product range will initially include the following models: the ruggedized G-Drive ArmorATF portable drive, with up to 6TB capacity and triple-layer shock resistance and aluminum casing; the G-Drive high-capacity desktop external drive, with an Ultrastar business hard drive and capacity up to 26TB; the G-Drive Project single-bay Thunderbolt 3 desktop solution, also with up to 26TB; the compact two-bay G-Drive Project 2 Thunderbolt 3 system, with up to 52TB; and the G-Raid Shuttle 4 and Shuttle 8 transportable storage arrays, with four and eight bays respectively, with hot-swappable Ultrastar drives and up to 208TB capacity.

Existing SanDisk Professional hard drive products will continue to receive full support and warranty from Western Digital. The transition, which is about to begin, follows the division of Western Digital into two independent companies, and its conversion to an independent company dedicated to HDD drives.

Darrin Bulik, Director of Product Management at Western Digitalhas highlighted that «G-Drive has become synonymous with high-capacity, high-performance storage for creatives and all levels, from enthusiast to professional. By consolidating our storage portfolio for content creators under this established and trusted brand, we are paying tribute to that legacy, while leveraging Western Digital’s industry-leading storage innovations to deliver the tools creators need to bring their vision to life.«.
