Career highlights

Throughout her astonishing amateur career, Katie became a five-time world champion.

She also won gold at London 2012 — the first time women’s boxing was included in an Olympic Games.

On November 26, 2016, Katie made her professional debut against Karina Szmalenberg (née Kopinska) at Wembley Arena, London.

The fight ended in a technical knockout victory for the Irish fighter in just 58 seconds of the first round.

Katie showcased her Olympic pedigree, overwhelming her opponent with a flurry of punches that forced the referee to stop the contest.

The quick victory highlighted her power and skill, immediately establishing her as a force to be reckoned with in the professional ranks.

In her second professional bout December 10, 2016, Katie faced Viviane Obenauf at the Manchester Arena.

Katie won by points decision after six rounds, with the referee scoring the fight 60-53 in her favour

She controlled the pace and outclassed her Brazilian opponent, knocking Obenauf down in the second round.

Following these early victories, Katie quickly rose through the ranks, winning her first world title in October 2017, when she claimed the WBA lightweight belt by dominating Anahi Sanchez.

In April 2018, she added the IBF title to her collection, unifying the division with a powerful unanimous decision victory over Victoria Bustos.

Katie’s career reached new heights in 2019 when she defeated Delfine Persoon at Madison Square Garden to become the undisputed lightweight champion, holding all four major world titles (IBF, WBA, WBC, and WBO) simultaneously.

This achievement made her only the eighth boxer in history — male or female — to hold all four major titles concurrently.

In 2022, Katie defended her undisputed lightweight title in a historic fight against Amanda Serrano at Madison Square Garden.

She won by split decision in what was hailed as the biggest fight in women’s boxing history.

Despite suffering her first professional loss to Chantelle Cameron in May 2023, Katie bounced back six months later, exacting revenge in the rematch to become the undisputed super-lightweight champion.

This victory made her a two-weight undisputed champion, further solidifying her legacy as one of the greatest boxers of her generation.

Throughout her glittering career, Katie has been credited with raising the profile of women’s boxing globally and inspiring a new generation of female boxers.
