Let’s explain to you what is Copilot+, the new artificial intelligence announced by Microsoft. This is a set of functions that we will have present in Windows 11, but only on specific computers that use the Copilot+ surname starting this summer.
We are going to start by explaining in a summary way what exactly Copilot+ for Windows 11 is. Then, we will also tell you what are the new functions that it will incorporate into the operating system, and we will finish by explaining how you will be able to have it.
What is Copilot+
Copilot is Microsoft’s artificial intelligence. However, in addition to being a generative AI like ChatGPT, it is also an AI that integrates into several different Microsoft services. Copilot also integrates into Windows and in Edge, in addition to other Microsoft tools, giving it new functions based on artificial intelligence.
Copilot+ es a set of new features for Windows 11, functions that are based on AI. It is much more powerful than the normal Copilot, and that is why it will require specific hardware and minimum requirements designed precisely for it.
Therefore, computers with Copilot+ will have a series of additional AI-based featuresranging from improving image quality to automatic translations and more.
What new features does Copilot+ add?
As we have said, Copilot+ is going to add a series of new functions based on artificial intelligence to the computers that can use it. Next, we give you a list of announced featuresand a short description that tells you how they work:
- Recall: One of the star features, “Memories” will remember and help you recover things you have done. Come on, you can remember anything that has happened in Windows, you just have to tell it what you want to search for. Something like Rewind for macOS, but natively integrated into Windows.
- Live Captions: It is a real-time translator. Windows AI will be able to convert the audio that is passing through the computer to another language, displaying subtitles in more than 40 languages. At first it will only be available in English.
- Auto Super Resolution: It will allow you to improve the quality and size of an image through artificial intelligence.
- Cocreator: This is like the Copilot you have on the web, but more advanced. It allows you to generate images and text, and all this without depending on the Internet, locally only on the computer. Come on, it is not an AI that has to be connected, it will be integrated into Windows.
- Effects for Windows Studio: AI effects will be improved, such as lighting or artistic styles. All of this will be done in real time at the computer level.
What you need to have Copilot+
In order to have Copilot+ on Windows you will need very specific specifications. First of all, you must include a neural processing unit (NPU) with at least 45 TOPS power. At the moment there are not many chips that have this, although the first will be the new Snapdragon X Series from Qualcomm.
Therefore, Copilot+ is not something you will be able to have on your current computer with Windows. You are going to need a new computer or upgrade yours to have a chip that includes this NPU. Equipment that has the option They will be called Copilot+ PC so you can identify them.
Computers with this type of chips have not yet reached the market, so it will be from 2024 onwards when you can start buying them and using this functionality. Its goal is for Windows to have an option in the artificial intelligence race.
