It’s been over a week since Xbox announced its first presentation of the year. This is a Developer Direct, a very special conference format which allows the firm to immerse us in the development of certain highly anticipated titles, from its own studios. The meeting is set, the players just have to show up January 23 at 7 p.m. to learn more about some nuggets. Fortunately, the programming is already known, at least in part. What surprises does Xbox have in store for us during its live broadcast?

When the company announced its conference, it gave us the names of the games that would be affected by the announcements. We will thus be able to see new images of DOOM : The Dark Ages, South of Midnight et Chiaroscuro: Expedition 33. Most of these games are expected this year on consoles and PC. However, there remains a mystery to be clarified.
Xbox keeps the surprise of the last title presented. This means that it is certainlya secret, large-scale project. Let’s not forget that last year’s Developer Direct revealed the existence ofIndiana Jones and the Ancient Circlefinally released in fall 2024. It could therefore be the next AAA that the firm has up its sleeve. But Internet users are of another opinion.
According to information from NateDrake, famous video game leaker, Xbox could announce the availability of Final Fantasy 7 on its platform. Until now, the two installments of the remake saga have only been offered to PS5 players as a console exclusive, as well as on PC. The announcement during this format would be strange, but according to the leaker, the first game could arrive as early as 2025 on Xbox, and the second in 2026. He recently took part in the various leaks around the Nintendo Switch 2 and has proposed some perfectly credible theories so far.
For our part, we are rather hoping for the announcement of a new game, or even to have news of certain games that have fallen into oblivion. We think in particular of OFthe big exclusive developed by Hideo Kojima for Xbox and PC players. The horror title is still a mystery for the industry, but its presentation caused a stir several months ago. Will he make his return during Developer Direct?
What you won’t see
The Developer Direct, due to its format, excludes a few favorite topics. For example, there will be no mention of the hardware part or the Xbox Game Pass. On the other hand, players will be able to benefit from interviews and comments from developers for each game present.
