What to Watch on Disney+ and Hulu This Week (May 9-16)

Whether you subscribe to them individually or as part of a bundle deal, Disney+ and Hulu both have a lot to offer streaming fans. Disney has the world-conquering Marvel and Star Wars franchises, while Hulu brings the heat with tons of original shows and movies from around the world, coupled with American TV shows from network partners. There’s a lot to watch, with new stuff every day, so we picked out the three best choices for the coming week, and the full list of TV shows and movies coming to the streaming services below.

Summer of 69 (May 9)

Here’s a fun pick for a Friday night date movie. Summer Of 69 is SNL writer Jillian Bell’s directorial debut, starring Chloe Fineman as a stripper who’s hired by an introverted high school senior to help her seduce her lifelong crush before they both graduate and go off to college. It’s a classic odd couple story that did well on the film festival circuit and has good reviews.

The Damned (May 9)

For a bit of a different Friday night vibe, check out The Damned. This international folk horror co-production stars Odessa Young as Eva, a widow struggling to survive in a bleak 19th century fishing outpost in the Arctic. Snowed in and running out of supplies, the citizens watch a ship wreck on the rocks but do nothing, because adding survivors would only reduce their chances of surviving the harsh winter. Needless to say, that turns out to be a bad choice.

Andor: Season 2 Series Finale (May 13)

It’s not a stretch to say that Andor is the most intelligent and mature piece of Star Wars content we’ve seen in a long time. Lucasfilm rightly gave Tony Gilroy nearly free rein to tell the story of how Cassian Andor (played by Diego Luna) went from an apolitical thief and scavenger to someone who was willing to put everything on the line in Rogue One. Disney+ has been slamming new episodes out at the rate of three a week, with the finale hitting on May 13.
