Whatever You Do, Don't Cancel Disney Plus or Max in March

I won’t lie: This month’s TV slate is loaded with exciting streaming content. But, with great TV comes not-so-great streaming expenses. With Daredevil: Born Again, Wicked, Raising Kanan, Moana 2, The Righteous Gemstones and the Severance finale coming in March, your subscriptions to Disney Plus, Max and the rest are worthwhile. March Madness is here, too, but that term can certainly apply to how you’re spending your money and attention on TV.

Netflix will release The Electric State this month, and it’s also streaming a new Plankton movie, Den of Thieves 2 and Kraven the Hunter. You can also get into Meghan Markle’s new show and another fresh title from Shonda Rhimes.

Are you trying to cut your streaming expenses right now? It may be tricky in March, but you can check out my guide on how to manage your subscriptions: Rotate — or churn your services like butter. You’ll subscribe when there’s something to watch, cancel for a period and then sign back up when a platform has the titles you want.

Switching subscriptions can liven up your viewing experience and save money when Hulu, Netflix, Apple TV Plus and others aren’t quite meeting your TV needs. Just make sure to turn off auto-renewal for your subscriptions. This strategy may not be doable if you’re sharing accounts, but I encourage you to give it a try.

Here are my recommendations for the best services to keep — or cancel — in March, based on the newest movies, shows and live events coming to each platform. (I didn’t consider live TV streaming services.) Your preferences might vary, but I urge you to consider rotating services for potential savings. It’s simpler than you may realize.

Streaming services to keep in March

Disney Plus has Daredevil: Born Again streaming all monthlong, starting with its premiere on March 4. That’s why I’m tuning in, but you may also want to watch Moana 2 on March 12; ESPN’s new SportsCenter show, SC Plus, on March 3; the last 12 episodes of  Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures when it’s back on March 19; or Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip  on March 28.

Max: This one’s a keeper, as The Righteous Gemstones season 4 will be here on March 9, so we get a double dose of Walton Goggins. Keep streaming The White Lotus, check out Heretic on March 7, and cap it off with Sing Sing on March 21.

Peacock: Wicked will be delivered to your TV’s doorstep on March 21, along with the entirety of Yellowstone season 5. Suits LA is streaming here each week, and the season 9 reunion for The Real Housewives of Potomac drops March 3. It’s also the place to watch The Traitors season 3 finale (March 6), and The Real Housewives of Atlanta, season 16 (March 10).

Starz: Power Book III: Raising Kanan season 4 debuts March 7, and it’s set to be a dramatic, violent run.

Hulu: Keep streaming The Bachelor, Abbott Elementary and Grey’s Anatomy when it returns on March 6. You can also check out Deli Boys on March 6, the Oscar-nominated Anora on March 17 and these other arrivals:

  • The Oscars, 97th Academy Awards, streaming live on March 2
  • Hellboy: The Crooked Man (March 7)
  • American Idol, season 23 (March 10)
  • Bill Burr: Drop Dead Years (March 14)
  • Good American Family (March 19)
  • Ol’ Dirty Bastard: A Tale of Two Dirtys (March 20)

Netflix: On March 20, you’ll want to watch Shonda Rhimes’ new show, The Residence, along with The Electric State (March 14), which stars Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt. Other titles hitting the streamer this month include:

  • With Love, Meghan – Meghan Markle’s lifestyle series (March 4)
  • Beauty in Black, part 2 (March 6)
  • Plankton: The Movie (March 7)
  • Chaos: The Manson Murders (March 7)
  • Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney, a live talk show (March 12)
  • Kraven the Hunter (March 13)
  • Den of Thieves 2: Pantera (March 20)
  • Revelations, a K-drama (March 21)
  • Survival of the Thickest, season 2 (March 27)
  • The Life List (March 28)

Prime Video: Because you probably already have this service, you’ll want to know what new titles are coming: The Wheel of Time, season 3 (March 13), Tyler Perry’s Duplicity (March 20), Bosch: Legacy (March 27) and Holland (March 27).

Paramount Plus: You don’t have to keep this one, but you should if you’re watching Yellowjackets or NCAA basketball. Musical content featuring Ringo Starr and Tom Petty is streaming here in March, but the biggest new release is Happy Face on March 20.

Apple TV Plus: The Severance season 2 finale hits March 21, but if you stick with Apple TV Plus, the documentary Number One of the Call Sheet airs on March 28.

Patience saves money on streaming

If you’re not someone who gets FOMO, rotating your subscriptions is a clever way to finesse your streaming budget. Wait patiently until most or all episodes of your favorite show are on a streaming service. Why commit to a subscription for several months just to watch a show that lasts six or 10 weeks, when you can simply binge-watch everything in one month and then do it all over again? This is ideal for those who love binge-watching or have a tighter viewing schedule.

A prime example would be Yellowjackets, which will run into April. The same can be said for The White Lotus or The Righteous Gemstones. Some of you may have been holding off until now to binge Severance or plan to cancel Peacock after streaming Wicked a few times. If you wait, you can save money on Paramount Plus with Showtime, Apple TV Plus or any other service. Catch a series a month or so later in the season, or wait to binge it all in later months.

Look at what you’re paying for streaming each month for every service and do the math. Netflix is now more, ranging from $8 to $25 (plus extra member fees), and Paramount Plus starts at $8. Apple TV Plus is $10. Disney Plus is anywhere from $10 to $27, depending on bundles. Max costs $10 to $21, Hulu is $10 a month, Starz runs $11 now and Peacock starts at $8. If you want to rotate, you can set up calendar alerts to remind you when it’s time to resubscribe or cancel.
