What’s New to Max Streaming This Week (May 16-23)

Of all the streaming services, Max has gone through some of the biggest changes since it launched, and it’s about to get a rebrand back to HBO Max this summer. Whatever you call it, it delivers a serious selection of shows and movies from all of its partner networks in 2025, including HBO, Discovery, Food Network, and more. New shows and movies are constantly being added, so we’re taking this Friday to present our three top picks for the week ahead, plus everything being added below.

American Monster: Abuse Of Power: Season 1 (May 19)

Long-running ID series American Monster enters a new chapter with Abuse of Power, a long-form series that takes on cases where horrific crimes and scandals were covered up and disposed of by authority figures. This installment covers the sordid story of Larry Nassar, who spent decades as a physician and trainer to young female gymnasts while simultaneously sexually assaulting them.

Expedition Files: Season 2 (May 22)

One of the more entertaining shows on Discovery, Expedition Files stars Josh Gates, who travels the world to dive into urban legends and tall tales and figure out the truth behind them. The second season delves into notorious Chicago serial killer H.H. Holmes, gunfighter Billy The Kid faking his own death, the sinking of the Titanic, and more. It’s a breezy watch that might even teach you something useful for trivia night.

Pee-Wee As Himself (May 23)

Paul Reubens was one of the purest creative minds of his generation, coming from the underground theater scene with Pee-Wee Herman, a capricious manchild who lived in a surreal world of puppets and playthings. After becoming an unexpected Saturday morning TV star, his career took twists and turns until he enjoyed a resurgence toward the end of his life. Pee-Wee As Himself is a new two-part documentary featuring unseen footage and interviews.
