WhatsApp keeps introducing new features for users’ convenience. Now, the Meta-owned instant messaging application could soon bring a translation feature for the masses. The feature is aimed to cater to the platform’s global audience as it allows people all over the world to connect with each other. In a report published by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on a feature that will enhance communication over multiple languages. The feature is being tested on the WhatsApp beta version 2.24.26.9.
WhatsApp translation feature
The WhatsApp translation feature will focus on breaking the language barrier on the platform along with maintaining the security and privacy of the users. WEBetaInfo has mentioned in their report that the translation will be conducted on the device of the user which means the messages will still follow the end-to-end encryption. The new translation feature by WhatsApp will have pre-downloaded language packs so that third parties do not get data from the WhatsApp servers.
As for the working of the feature, all the users will have an option to download the language pack according to their requirement for offline usage. After getting the pack, users can use the translation feature on WhatsApp without any internet connection. The offline translation will also help the users maintain privacy which has always been the first priority of WhatsApp.
Apart from that, users will also have the authority to decide if the messages will be translated automatically or manually. Now, one thing that every user should know here is that the translations will not be 100% accurate every time when the use it. So, the users can get to see a little inaccuracy in the translation as it is happening offline without any real-time engines. Until now, it is not clear if the feature will be rolled out for the stable version or not. Speculations are that we will most probably get to see the feature globally if the beta tests are successful.
