Among the notable new features of this second version of Monday 20 cargo, we mainly remember the new central crutch, which deserves a special mention. It unfolds in the blink of an eye thanks to a side control pedal, without you needing to set foot on the ground. A detail of ergonomics that makes all the difference when you are in a hurry … or two children fidget at the back.
Mustache also thought of security: a lock prevents the crutch from falling by accident when loading or unloading the bicycle. It offers a generous couple of 85 Nm, very useful for towing heavy loads or facing severe slopes. And in fact, it works: the bike remains ultra fluid, even in full climb with an adult on board. Turbo mode is formidable on the ribs, without melting the battery as snow in the sun. We were able to make a good fifty kilometers passing by the slopes of Meudon in a single load on a day by always having a comfortable margin in the evening, enough not to stress.
Autonomy precisely, let’s talk about it: with its 500 W battery (expandable in dualbattery), Monday 20 cargo can easily travel 60 to 70 km in mixed use. Enough to cover daily journeys for several days without recharging. We are not yet at the level of the very large communities or longtails, but for an urban family use, it is more than enough.
Driving comfort that evokes the automotive universe
What strikes, after a few kilometers, is this feeling of comfort. A sweetness in the piloting which almost evokes the universe of the sedan. The driving position is straight and relaxed and the suspensions do an excellent job to smooth out the road’s roughness. We find ourselves slowing down, not by necessity, but for pleasure. Improvement points despite everything
No bike is perfect, and Monday 20 cargo is no exception. The weight of the machine – about 35 kg empty depending on the equipment – is felt when you stop or when it is necessary to push it by hand. The maneuvers in narrow corridors or to enter it in a room are a bit sporty, especially if you have no dedicated room. Similarly, its template, even compact for a cargo, requires a little anticipation in dense traffic or parking. Finally, if we were to quibble, we could dream of an option with automatic transmission for even more fluidity in the gear passages.
