Another Saturday and another day of restrictions with the Saturday Hoy No Circula. Because, indeed, the specific restrictions for each Saturday included in the Hoy No Circula program are back.
This project, conceived by the Mexico City Secretariat of the Environment (SEDEMA), is designed to reduce polluting emissions present in the atmosphere and, therefore, improve the general quality of the air. In this way, the impact of pollution on the health of citizens is reduced.
A measure that, as you well know, is applied only where it is active. Specifically, we are talking about the 16 municipalities in Mexico City and in the following metropolitan municipalities of the State of Mexico:
- Atizapan de Zaragoza
- Coacalco de Berriozabal
- Cuautitlan
- Cuautitlan Izcalli
- Chalco
- Chicoloapan
- Chimalhuacan
- Ecatepec de Morelos
- Huixquilucan
- Ixtapaluca
- Peace
- Naucalpan de Juarez
- Nezahualcoyotl
- Nicolas Romero
- Tecámac
- Tlalnepantla of Baz
- Tultitlan
- Chalco Valley
Which cars and license plates are affected by the Saturday Hoy No Circula?
So, what do we need to know to comply with the Hoy No Circula restrictions? How can we know if today we can (or cannot) drive our car freely and avoid fines?
The first thing to be clear about is that we must recognize the operation of the Hoy No Circula program. This project operates throughout the week, which, as you can see in the image above, affects a multitude of cars. These restrictions, however, only apply between 05:00 and 22:00 hours.
With all this in mind, it is important to bear in mind that Saturdays are special days. Here are three different cases that have their own idiosyncrasies. It must be clear that not always the same cars rest and, therefore, Saturdays divide the restrictions into three categories:
- Those who can circulate every Saturday
- Those who have to rest every Saturday
- Those who rest on Saturdays and not on the next
Having reviewed these particularities, to know whether or not we can drive a car on the streets affected by the Saturday Hoy No Circula, the first thing to look at is the hologram. If it is 0 or 00, you can drive freely. That is, you can drive every weekend, without restrictions.
The opposite happens to cars with hologram two. In this case, all cars with this hologram must rest and stay at home, no matter what, every Saturday if they do not want to risk a fine.
Finally, cars with a hologram one will have to pay attention to the last digit of their license plate number. In this case, cars with an odd last number will rest during odd weeks and, conversely, those that end in an even number will rest during even weeks.
In this case, the September 21stcars with a hologram of one and a license plate ending in an odd number will have to stay home, since we are facing the third Saturday of September.
However, it should be noted that there are some exceptions that allow the circulation of certain vehicles as on any other day of the week. In this case, the Hoy No Circula does not apply, and of course, neither does the Hoy No Circula on Saturday:
- Those with hologram 0 and 00
- Those that run on electricity, natural gas or are hybrids
- Those who have a disabled license plate
- All those dedicated to urban transport services (including funeral services)
- Those who offer school or passenger transportation
- Those intended for public safety and/or civil protection
In case of non-compliance with these restrictions, the fine will be 20 to 30 times the Unit of Measurement and Update (ONE), which is equivalent to 1,924.40 pesos and up to 2,886.60 pesos.
