The revival of the DC universe on the big screen is finally here. After long months of teasing, the feature film Superman by James Gunn has finally revealed himself in a trailer that is promising to say the least. Superheroes find a little fantasy and color for our greatest happiness. Over time, DC film productions became a shadow of its former self, unable to shine through even their storyline or visuals. The DCEU is wrapped up for good and James Gunn intends to do the complete opposite of his predecessors with his reboot.
The first trailer speaks for itself: the atmosphere will be lighter but the tone will still be as epic. This change of direction is fully assumed and recorded in the extracts broadcast today, starting with the highlighting of an unusual character. If your knowledge of the DC Universe stops at the films of recent years, you must certainly be wondering what is this funny dog that comes to Superman’s rescue?
Perhaps you saw it on TV in your childhood, or more recently in the cinema: it’s about Krypto the super dog, Clark Kent’s most faithful companion. Despite his seemingly normal appearance, Krypto comes from the same planet as his master, and therefore has the same superpowers. The DCEU had to give up on this adorable, super-powered doggie because of his somewhat comical character, but James Gunn intends to make him a real asset.

The director inspired by his own animal
A few months ago, James Gunn already revealed the presence of Krypto in the feature film on the occasion of the “Adopt a Shelter Dog Month“. In the United States, the month of October is designated as “the month of adopting a dog at the shelter” in order to raise awareness among citizens of the conditions of our canine friends. The director then revealed that the adoption of his own dog, Ozu, motivated him to integrate Krypto into the script of his new film.
The first months of living with this animal companion were so chaotic that James Gunn found himself wondering:God, how difficult would life be if Ozu had powers?“. It is based on this simple premise that Superman’s dog became an essential element of DC’s revival in cinema. Krypto stole the show in this trailer, but it’s important to note that other key characters such as Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Lex Luthor also made an appearance. As a reminder, Superman will enter French cinemas on July 9, 2025.
