Ask any Marvel comics fan, There is no Fantastic 4 without Doctor Doomor Doctor Doom for us. The previous adaptations featuring our four heroes had not missed the appointment with the late Julian McMahon under the mask in 2005 and 2007, then Toby Kebbell in 2015. It must be said that Victor von Doom (or Doom eh) is to the Richards what Lex Luthor is to Superman. And if the team’s first film in the MCU preferred Galactus, the Doctor will have a very central role thereafter.
We immediately announce the color, there is no question in this article of revealing to you whether the man, main antagonist of the future Avengers : Doomsday Then Avengers : Secret Warsalready makes an appearance in Fantastic Fourin case you haven’t seen the movie yet. Why Doom is more important than Thanos
The story of Doom itself could be the subject of several films in its own right. It would be impossible to detail everything here so here it is a quick summary. Victor was born into a Bohemian tribe in the country of Latveria. His mother, a witch who made a pact with Mephisto, disappeared while he was still a child. This separation will mark him forever.
Later, coming across his mother’s belongings, he will train in witchcraft self-taught. At university, he will meet Red Richards whose intelligence will hurt his own pride, making the two men enemies. Traveling around the world, he discover the mystical arts then take control of Latveria by overthrowing his king. A status which will allow him to obtain diplomatic immunity in many countries.
Doom possesses great mystical powers, he is also a genius in many areasincluding robotics, physics, genetics, weaponry and he has already mastered time travel. It is also a master in the art of manipulation, and his armor of great sophistication offers him super-strength, electric field, flight capacity… In short, he is an individual bringing together, to a slightly lesser degree (and again), Strange’s Arts, Richards’ Intelligence, and Iron Man’s Equipment. Faculties that make him capable of fooling, diverting or using the greatest forces in the universe.
Doom’s greatest enemy, much like Luthor, remains himself. His ego and pride are the main causes of his defeats and his sufferings. Like when he didn’t have the patience to wait for his metal mask to cool before putting it on his face, burning him badly. Otherwise, he is undoubtedly one of the most dangerous individuals in all of Marvel.

What Doomsday Can’t Miss
It’s not a secret, the arrival of Doom as the next villain Avengers in the MCU is more of a backup plan than a long-constructed project. We remember that the role of villain on duty was to be given to Kang before Disney parted ways with Jonathan Majors and refused to recast a character who had not particularly left an impression on the public. Instead, Kevin Feige preferred to pull out all his aces up his sleeve by announcing one of the most iconic antagonists of the House of Ideas ET Robert Downey Jr. in the role. We call it going all-in in Poker.
The bet is understandable. Even if it means releasing one of the ultimate villains, you might as well have him played by the man who literally carried Marvel Studios to Avengers : Endgamejust to ensure that the greenback machine moves forward again. And Robert will pocket a very, very nice check in the process. Nevertheless, the chances of this decision turning against the MCU are very high.

We have no concerns about the fidelity to the costume or the exceptional abilities of the character. The MCU has accustomed us to respecting its own creations at this level. So we shouldn’t have the 2015 version of Power Rangers. RDJ is an excellent actor and Tony Stark has the intelligence of Victor von Doom after all.
Except that there is two pitfalls to avoid. The first is to making Doom a simple obscure version of an Iron Man gone bad. We know that this version exists in the multiverse of Marvel comics and that this is what will serve as the basis for explaining the casting choice. But for as long as fans have been waiting for the arrival of Doom in the MCU, they deserve better than a simple distorted reproduction of a character they already know. Doom has a personality, a history, skills, which make him unique within the entire Marvel stable, on paper or on screen and which cannot be summed up as “a Tony Stark of the dark side”. This solution would be a real sign of screenwriting laziness.
What if…
However, with the same actor behind the mask, how could it be otherwise? This is trap number 2. The mask. Fatalis almost never takes off his mask. It is a founding characteristic of the characterwhich gives him his aura, makes him frightening, because you can’t read his face. His thoughts, his plans, his emotions are hidden behind this mask.

The fans’ fear when Downey Jr. was made official was the same: that of seeing the actor’s face far too often in the next Avengers. When you pay a star millions, you know that financial and marketing logic dictates that she be on screen. Hence the reluctance of each film to mask its superheroes too often. Except Deadpool since Ryan Reynolds sees to it. And then we guess that the Russos are already imagining a scene where Peter Parker would find himself facing an evil Tony Stark…
So let’s be crazy for a minute. Let us not imagine the economic implications of such a decision. What if Avengers : Doomsday and its sequel made the ultimate bet? Taking a great actor for the role just for the role. Robert Downey Jr. would play a Victor von Doom who would keep his mask. No “oh, it’s Tony Stark!” ». Even for the actor, it would be a new challenge with a completely different interpretation. Especially since we recall that the actor was considered for the role of Doom at the time of the Fox films. For now, that would be a real surprise. Yes, we know, we dream out loud…
