The stars were aligned for a new nomination, but Variety reveals that the film will not be able to compete in this category.
Reheated?
The original music of Dune: Part Two does not meet the admission criteria imposed by the Academy. Indeed, in the case of films evolving within a franchise or saga, the competing music cannot not include more than 20% of themes and music “pre-existing borrowed from previous scores of the franchise”. “In the world of storytelling, our goal is to serve the story and create a connection with the audience. With Dune: Part Two, we continue the journey we began in the first half of the book at the exact moment we left off. Music has always been written to develop and evolve its themes and bring them, like the book, towards a natural ending, planned from the first word to the last note. Note that all is not lost for the composer who ris in the running for the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, BAFTAs and even the Grammys. Note that he could nevertheless be present at the Oscars for his work on Blitz.
Who for the music of Dune: Prophecy?
In a few days, the Dune universe will return to the forefront. After Denis Villeneuve’s first two films, HBO and Max are teaming up to tell another story in the imagination of Frank Herbert. This is the work The Community of Sisters which is adapted, written by the author’s son. If Hans Zimmer has already signed compositions for the small screen, the musician hands over to Prophecy. Volker Beterlmann will direct the music for the series which will be released on November 18 on Max. Coincidence or not, he won an Oscar a year after Hans Zimmer, for his work on the film In the West, nothing new.
