Google has started adding a couple of handy new features to its Maps app, according to numerous users who are reporting the changes.

The company is yet to announce the features, but there have been several reports that a new ‘Wi-Fi only’ feature is now available for some users.

Found in the settings of the Maps app, the new feature apparently replaces ‘Offline areas’ and forces the Maps to load data through Wi-Fi signals, using a small amount of cellular data.

Google seems to be rolling out the new functionality in stages. You can check to see if you have it by opening the settings screen and looking for a new toggle on the second line called ‘Wi-Fi only’.

It doesn’t look like there are any major changes over the Offline areas feature, but it seems to make things a bit clearer.

On top of that, notifications for mass transit delays have also been added, giving users the ability to set customisable notifications for when the buses and trains are experiencing slowdowns and disruptions.

The feature will seemingly allow you to set alerts for specific lines, so you can limit the notifications to the journeys you care about.

Android Police are reporting that this feature currently comes with some glitches, but these should obviously be fixed before mass transit delays are rolled out in full.

Google should make the new features available to all soon, but for now it seems they are limited to a select few on Maps version 9.32 for Android.
