Microsoft is moving closer to realising its long-promised Cross-Device Resume feature for Windows 11. The feature is designed to enable PC users to resume their mobile activities with the minimum of fuss. Now Android are set for a major boost.

Right now the feature, revealed last May, only works on OneDrive (for both Android and iOS), but a new Windows 11 test build offers Android users support for apps like Spotify, Microsoft’s Office apps, and the Edge browser.

In a blog post on Wednesday, Microsoft wrote: “This update expands the functionality of Cross‑Device Resume, which Microsoft first introduced in the May 2025 Windows non-security update (KB5058499).

“You can continue activities from your Android phone on your PC based on the apps and services you use, including resuming Spotify playback, working in Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, or continuing a browsing session.”

The feature is reminiscent of the Continuity between iPhone/iPad and Mac devices, which easily enables users to switch between mobile and desktop on stock apps, in order to complete a task. For example, if you’re browsing Safari on your iPhone, you may see the app’s icon appear within the Dock on the Mac. Clicking this icon takes you to the same page within Safari on the desktop. It works with apps like Messages, Notes and Mail too.

Furthermore, Microsoft is improving the Resume feature for Copolot users with Honor, OPPO, Samsung, Vivo, or Xiaomi Android phones.

Microsoft adds that users “can resume online files that you opened in the Microsoft Copilot app on your phone and continue working on them on your PC. Files open in the corresponding Microsoft 365 app on your PC if it is installed. If the app is not installed, the files open in your default web browser. This feature does not support offline files stored only on your phone.”

The features will likely roll out to all Windows 11 users in the coming weeks.
