Welcome back to 3 Tech Polls, HackerNoon’s brand-new Weekly Newsletter that curates results from our Poll of the Week, and 2 related polls around the web. Thank you for having voted in our polls in the past.

For this week’s topic, we’re talking about something that seems to be looming closer and closer: fully autonomous self-driving cars.

This Week’s Poll Results (HackerNoon)

Would You Ride in A Self-Driving Car?

Tesla is starting trials on their robotaxi service, and Waymo continues to open up its services to more cities. So, we want to know if you would ride one of these autonomous cars.

A whopping 51% of people said they would ride in a self-driving car. 25% said they were open to the possibility in the future, just not any time soon. However, 18% were adamant that they would absolutely not ride in one.

Some in the comments took this time to tease the naysayers and the pessimists.

Others lamented that self-driving cars were actually safer than when a human is behind the wheel.

I mean, their accident rate is lower than human drivers already…

Somebody tacked on to this idea by saying:

Drinking and driving accidents to become obsolete!

And finally, some imagined what the future would look like and how self-driving cars would shape the laws of our society:

I feel like it’s going to get to a point like the movie IRobot where all the cars are driving themselves, talking to each other and it will become illegal to manually drive your own vehicle.

From the way the comment section and the voting swayed, it seems as if most people are ready and excited for the possibility of fully self-driving cars. Some see this as just the inevitable next step in transportation, and others see this as the safest way to use cars.

However, this begs the question: Does the rest of the internet feel the same way? Let’s find out.

Will Waymo surpass Uber SF market share in 2025?

Current odds: 17% chance

Waymo is a company that offers customers a self-driving car ride. Although it’s not available everywhere in the United States, it’s available in a lot of big cities, including Atlanta, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. And some people believe that this company can take down a giant like Uber.

That’s why on Polymarket, people have it at a 17% chance that Waymo will be able to match or beat Uber in the city of San Francisco. Only time will tell if they’re correct.

🌐From Around The Web: Kalshi Pick

When will Tesla launch unsupervised FSD?

Current Odds: Before November: 3%. Before 2026: 15%

Users of Kalshi don’t have a lot of faith that Tesla, one of the most well-known car companies in the world, will be able to launch a fully autonomous self-driving car by the end of the year. According to the bet, there’s only a 15% chance of Tesla releasing an unsupervised FSD before 2026.

That’s it for this week, folks. Until next time!
