5 best trailers from Xbox Games Showcase
Xbox’s Sunday showcase was packed with new trailers for some of the biggest games coming out this year and next. The one that caught my eye the most was Keeper, a strange new adventure game from Double Fine Studios where you’re a lighthouse with legs.
There were plenty of others worth shouting out as well, like the blood-soaked Ninja Gaiden 4 trailer or the official reveal of the long-rumored Persona 4 remake, Persona 4 Revival.
You can check out our picks for the best trailers at this year’s Xbox Game Showcase below.
ROG Xbox Ally: Everything we know so far
That’s it for Xbox’s big Summer Game Fest showcase! We got a slew of trailers for new games, but one of the most exciting announcements was Xbox’s upcoming handheld: the ROG Xbox Ally.
If you’re thinking of getting this Steam Deck and Switch 2 competitor, we’ve broken down everything you need to know about the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X.
Xbox has also shared a 10-minute behind-the-scenes feature that dives into all the specs and performance upgrades you can expect.

The Outer Worlds 2 is the biggest game Obsidian’s ever made
“It’s truly an exciting time here at Obsidian,” a studio exec wrapped up today’s presentation. The Outer Worlds 2 is the biggest game the acclaimed Fallout studio has ever made, with more choices and stuff to do than ever before.
2025 also marks the first time the studio’s released three games in one year, and it has “no plans to slow down.”
The Outer Worlds 2 factions and companions
There will be six companions in The Outer Worlds 2, each with their own quests. There’s Aza, the rift-worshipping cultist; Marisol, an assassin who’s seen better days; and Niles, an Earth Directorate agent at a crossroads.
In that same vein, each of the game’s factions also has its own story and sense of humor. What’s caught my attention is how you can tune into each faction’s radio station. Each plays up to 20 tracks. That’s a fun spin on the popular in-game radio personalities like Three Dog and Mr. New Vegas in other Fallout games.
Obsidian was ‘able to go a lot deeper’ with sequel
The Outer Worlds 2 creative director Leonard Boyarsky said the sequel plans to widen the series’ scope and add even more choices for players to explore:
“It’s a continuation of the themes of robber barons in space, and how people are controlled by the stories they’re told by the people who have power over them. This time we’re able to go a lot deeper because we have more time and money. We’re able to make it a much more true, Obsidian reactive RPG than we were the first time around.
“So we’re going deeper and more complex with everything for the sequel. Deeper story, lore, RPG interactions, reactivity. All the things we’ve been known for as a company.
“Surprisingly, this is the only time in over 25 years that I’ve had the chance to do a full sequel for a world I helped co-create. It’s a fantastic opportunity to explore and expand the universe in interesting ways, and to go even further with the themes of how people are affected by living in a dystopian corporate reality.”
Fallout New Vegas-style perks are back!
Obsidian is streamlining players’ skill set for The Outer Worlds 2, and it looks like a huge improvement from the clunky system we saw in the first.
Most exciting in my opinion is the addition of traits, which seem a distant cousin of the kinds of perks we saw in Fallout New Vegas that can affect gameplay in beneficial and often entertaining ways.
For instance, a new Serial Killer perk makes enemies drop hearts that give you a permanent health bonus on pick-up.
Onto the Outer Worlds 2 showcase!
With the standard Xbox presentation out of the way, we’re diving straight into a presentation on the Outer Worlds 2 from Obsidian.
CEO Feargus Urquhart began by calling this “the year of Obsidian” before he was interrupted by comedian Ben Schwartz. The Sonic voice actor took over as Mark, Obsidian’s “head of sequels,” to dive into the studio’s upcoming RPG.
Call of Duty Black Ops 7 caps off Xbox showcase

Watch On
Call of Duty Black Ops 7 was the last reveal of Xbox’s standard showcase. It didn’t offer too many details about the highly anticipated sequel, though it looks to be set in the near-future. There’s also a magical techno-butterfly-looking thing?
The official Call of Duty blog says it’ll will feature “a thrilling and innovative co-op campaign” as well as “the next twisted chapter of round-based Zombies in the heart of the Dark Aether.” Call of Duty Black Ops 7 is set to come out later this year.
Double Fine’s Keeper looks intriguing

Watch On
Psychonauts developer Double Fine Studios is known for their oddball games, and its latest Keeper seems to be continuing that tradition.
You play as a sentient lighthouse (it literally sprouts legs in the trailer) wandering around a strange, Tim Burton-esque landscape of floating monsters, jeweled caverns, and small villages seemingly populated by robots.
Keeper launches on October 17.
Gears of War remastered
How is Gears of War already 20 years old? To celebrate the iconic series’ anniversary, Xbox is remastering the original with 4K resolution, up to 120 FPS support, and “fully modernized multiplayer” that includes cross-platform and crossplay along with good ol’ fashioned splitscreen.
It’s called Gears of War: Reloaded and it comes out August 26.

Duke it out in Invincible fighting game

Watch On
Prime Video’s hit animated superhero show Invincible is getting its own fighting game! It’s called Invincible Vs, and it’s coming out next year.
The fighting looks surprisingly good, and just as bloody as the show. It looks to be a 3v3 tag fighter with a roster that includes Viltrumite soldiers, Atom Eve, Rex Splode and more characters from the series.
Persona 4 remake (finally) announced
Head back to the Velvet Room in Persona 4 Revival (yes, it’s real!) at…some point in the future. No release date was revealed, but the long-rumored remake is finally confirmed. You can check out the full trailer below.

Life is Strange studio reveals sci-fi adventure Aphelion

Watch On
DontNod, the studio behind fan-favorite RPGs like Life is Strange, is taking players to the stars in its next adventure: Aphelion.
A reveal trailer for Aphelion, out in 2026, showed off a icy crash site and an astronaut exploring stark environments on alien planets. Possibly with monsters lurking about? It looks like a cross between Dead Space, Starfield and Uncharted.
Here’s the official description: “By 2060, Earth will be uninhabitable. The discovery of a 9th planet – Persephone – at the edge of the Solar System, is humanity’s best hope. The European Space Agency is dispatching the Hope 01 scientific mission, consisting of 2 accomplished astronauts, Ariane and Thomas. Their mission: to survey the planet and determine whether humanity can prosper anew here. Stranded on a frozen planet, astronaut Ariane must brave rugged landscapes and shifting realities to rescue her wounded partner, Thomas. This story-rich sci-fi adventure blends exploration, traversal, and tense stealth gameplay.”
Grounded 2 in early access next month

Watch On
Honey, we’re shrunk again. The first Grounded turned players mini to survive the trials and tribulations of their own backyard. Now Grounded 2 will make them pint-size once more to take on spiders, ride ants, and build their miniature safe havens.
A game preview will go live on July 29, letting players get some hands-on first impressions.
Pokemon studio unveils Monster Hunter-style adventure
Pokemon series creator Game Freak is cooking up a stunning new adventure called Beast of Reincarnation. The trailer at today’s showcase seemed to take heavy inspiration from Japanese folklore and other catch-’em’-all games like Monster Hunter, but with some sci-fi elements as well. It’s coming to PC and consoles next year.

Ninja Gaiden 4 coming this October

Watch On
Koei Tecmo debuted a bloody new trailer for Ninja Gaiden 4, which will release on Xbox, PS5, and PC on October 21.
Easily the highlight of the trailer was seeing the OG protagonist Ryu Hayabusa cracking skulls again, but the new hero looks like a ruthless killing machine in his own right.
New 3D Super Meat Boy
I’ve been a fan of Edmund McMillen’s games since playing Super Meat Boy on Newgrounds, and now everyone’s favorite platforming meat sack is making the jump from 2D to 3D.
Xbox announced Super Meat Boy 3D in a new trailer that you can check out below. It promises a lot of the same nail-biting platforming challenges the series is known for.

Xbox kicked things off with a new Outer Worlds 2 story trailer that showed off the game’s big bad venture capitalist and some shots of the combat and worlds we’ll explore.

Rumored Persona 4 remake
One of the worst-kept secrets in gaming, the long-speculated Persona 4 remake, will likely be revealed at today’s Xbox Games Showcase.
The remake from legendary RPG studio Atlus is reportedly being developed for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. While there’s no word on a Switch 2 port yet, its absence from early leaks doesn’t completely rule out that possibility.
The rumored Persona 4 remake is expected to follow in the footsteps of last year’s critically acclaimed Persona 3 Reload, which updated the graphics, combat, and pacing for modern audiences. If history serves, fans can expect Persona 4, one of the most beloved entries in the franchise, to get a similar overhaul.
Welcome to our Xbox Showcase 2025 live blog!
As Xbox’s big annual summer event, we’re expecting to see the latest and greatest games coming to Microsoft’s gaming console. And now that Xbox is effectively a third-party developer, the games we’ll see won’t just be relegated to systems like Xbox Series X/S.
If you’re a PlayStation or Nintendo gamer, you’ll want to keep an eye out for games potentially coming to your favorite platform. The Outer Wilds 2, which will have its own dedicated showcase immediately after the Xbox event, will be a spotlight title. We could also see updates for Gears of War: E-Day, Fable, and Forza Horizon 6. It’s also not a long shot to expect footage from the next Call of Duty title.
This show might also give us some details on the rumored Xbox handheld collaboration between Asus and Microsoft.
