Xbox Magnus is the rumoured codename for the supposed upcoming Xbox console.

Although Microsoft has yet to confirm any details about the long-awaited second-gen console, plenty of rumours, leaks and speculation are circulating online.

While we wait for Microsoft to finally reveal more about Xbox Magnus, we’ve rounded up the most credible (and exciting) rumors below.

Once you’ve finished here, make sure you visit our best game console guide to see how the upcoming Xbox Magnus could rank. Or, visit our Steam Machine rumours guide to compare the upcoming Valve PC to the rumoured specs of the Xbox Magnus.

Xbox Magnus at a glance

  • Said to use the largest APU ever used in a gaming console
  • Up to 48GB RAM
  • Rumors of two Xbox Magnus consoles: one “hybrid” and the other “regular”
  • 2027 is the target release date
  • Pricing still at large, with multiple sources pointing to around the $800 up to $1500

Xbox Magnus release date and pricing rumors

At the time of writing, we don’t have any firm details on the release date or pricing for the Xbox Magnus. However, there is plenty of speculation and educated guesses available online.

According to a fairly recent Moore’s Law Is Dead video, insiders have supposedly confirmed that the Xbox Magnus is targeted for 2027 – although that’s as specific as it gets.

From the same video, it’s estimated that although the Xbox Magnus console is likely to cost over $800, there’s no need for it to cost more than $1200, and “certainly not more than $1500” either.

While this will make the Xbox Magnus significantly more expensive than a typical console, it does make sense if the hybrid console/gaming PC specs are to be believed – in fact, it’s arguable that the $800 – $1200 mark isn’t too expensive for a gaming PC.

Another rumour around pricing comes from X, with a so-called Gaming Sleuth revealing a leak that there’s not one but two Xbox Magnus consoles set to be announced as soon as “this June” at the Xbox Showcase. Not only that, but the post suggests the Xbox Magnus will have a lower starting cost than what Tom from Moore’s Law Is Dead claims, at $699.

Xbox Magnus specs rumors

We’ve taken most of the specs rumours from Moore’s Law Is Dead, as this YouTube channel has a good reputation for accurately revealing hardware leaks.

In a recent video, Tom from the channel revealed an in-depth look at the power behind the Xbox Magnus console. He doesn’t mention the idea of two consoles, as other leakers have claimed; instead, he seems to focus on a hybrid console/PC gaming model.

You might be wondering where the codename “Magnus” comes from, and the short answer is that it’s the name of the suspected APU expected to be found in the Xbox Magnus.

AMD Magnus has a lot going for it as, according to Moore’s Law Is Dead, it’s supposedly the largest APU that’s ever been used in a gaming console. This could result in stronger performance than even the upcoming PlayStation 6 (although the PS6’s specs are still just rumours).

It’s also thought that the Xbox Magnus could feature up to 48GB of RAM, while its AI Engine may have a low-power mode to meet Microsoft Copilot requirements.
