After months of uncertainty, Xbox has finally dropped the news everyone’s been waiting for – yes, the next-gen Xbox is real, and it’s already in the works.
While speaking to Variety, Xbox president Sarah Bond confirmed that the console is in the works. “We are 100% looking at making things in the future,” Bond says. “We have a partnership we’ve announced with AMD around it, so that is coming.”
“What we saw here was an opportunity to innovate in a new way and to bring gamers another choice, in addition to our next-gen hardware. We are always listening to what players and creators want. When there is demand for innovation, we’re going to build it.”
Bond’s comments follow a turbulent couple of weeks for Microsoft, which saw insiders speculating that Microsoft had quietly cancelled future hardware products after making big changes to Xbox Game Pass.
Microsoft did eventually step in, releasing its own statement to confirm that it is “actively investing in our future first-party consoles and devices designed, engineered, and built by Xbox,” while pointing to its partnership with AMD – something Bond’s comment supports.
We don’t know much about the new Xbox officially, but leaks suggest it’ll be more powerful than the PS5, go toe-to-toe with gaming PCs, and cost nearly twice as much as the Xbox Series X. It’s also believed to be launched sometime in 2027.
While Bond’s comments reveal very little about the new Xbox console, it does offer some reassurance that Microsoft isn’t giving up on consoles and that it is prepared to listen to its community.
What that’ll result in though remains to be seen.
