The xf86-input-mouse driver for mouse support when using the X.Orrg Server on operating systems like the BSDs, Illumos, GNU Hurd, and Solaris is out with a rare update.
The xf86-input-mouse driver is not used by Linux systems with the xf86-input-libinput and xf86-input-evdev drivers being the better solutions there, but the X.Org mouse driver is used on other platforms like the BSDs, Solaris, and others as noted. This driver supports mice connected via serial bus, PS/2, and USB and provides for proper input device handling under the X.Org Server.
While there have been some point releases in the years since, the last major xf86-input-mouse update was 12 years ago with its v1.9.0 release. Yesterday that was finally succeeded by xf86-input-mouse 2.0.0.
Alan Coopersmith of Oracle continues to be one of the few still herding old X.Org package releases, namely for taking care of Oracle Solaris needs. The xf86-input-mouse 2.0 release drops the incomplete Linux support, brings various build fixes, improves the man page formatting, and other small mostly maintenance-related changes.
Those that happen to be using the xf86-input-mouse driver can find the v2.0 release via the and FreeDesktop.org GitLab.
