Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is set to launch its new 17 series this month, with the 17 Pro expected to feature a 50MP Leica triple-camera setup and a rear display, according to details shared on Weibo. The camera system is said to include a main lens with f/1.67 aperture, a telephoto lens at f/3.0 with 115mm focal length supporting 5x optical zoom, and an ultra-wide lens at 17mm.
Xiaomi also announced that both the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max will come with a small rear screen integrated into the camera module, which can display the time, custom animations, support rear-camera selfies, and even control cars. The series will debut with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen5 processor, which Xiaomi executives describe as part of the company’s continued push into the high-end smartphone market.
The 17 series, skipping the “16” name after the Xiaomi 15, comes as Apple introduced its iPhone 17 lineup this month. Xiaomi executives said the new devices are positioned to compete directly with Apple’s flagship models. [IThome, in Chinese]
