American semiconductor company Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 mobile platform for entry-level 5G smartphones on Tuesday, announcing that key OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), such as Xiaomi, will initially adopt the new chipset on their commercial devices before the end of the year. The new mobile platform will bring 5G to 2.8 billion smartphone users in certain regions, providing peak download speeds of 1 Gbps (Gigabits per second), which is seven times faster than the LTE platforms usually found in the same price range, according to Qualcomm’s announcement. “Many people have yet to experience the benefits of 5G, and thanks to Snapdragon 4s Gen 2, Xiaomi can bring 5G connectivity to a broader audience and help reshape the way the world connects and interacts,” said Muralikrishnan B, President of Xiaomi India.
