Xiaomi’s all-electric sedan, the SU7, outsold Tesla’s Model 3 in China for the first time in December, with the two models recording sales of 25,815 and 21,046 units, respectively, according to figures compiled by the Chinese auto service platform Dongchedi. The SU7 and Model 3 ranked fourth and fifth on the best-selling all-electric sedan list for December, which was topped by BYD’s Seagull and followed by two of Wuling’s budget EVs. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun reposted the information on a Chinese microblogging platform on Tuesday, noting that BYD sold 48,754 units of the Seagull, a small-sized, entry-level car with a starting price of RMB 69,800 ($9,639), last month. Xiaomi delivered more than 135,000 units of the SU7 in 2024, its only model currently available. The Chinese tech giant is set to launch its second model this summer, which will compete directly with Tesla’s Model Y. [Lei Jun’s Weibo post, in Chinese]
