For X.Org Server users there is a new release of xorgproto for the holidays. Xorgproto as the set of headers and specifications for the X11 core protocols and extensions is out with its first new release since March 2024.

Xorgproto 2025.1 released today as the first new release in a year and a half for this set of X11 protocols/extensions. The main purpose of this new release is adding additional keysyms for newer keyboard keys found on laptop keyboards and more over the past several years. There is just new keysyms plus a variety of other maintenance/housekeeping fixes in xorgproto 2025.1.

The XF86keysym.h header file is used for defining the symbolic names for special function keys on keyboards to be more easily supported by X111 desktop environments.

This commit added new keysyms for the refresh rate toggle found on some newer laptop keyboards plus accessibility and do-not-disturb keys. Plus some other missing keys that were added all the way back in Linux 2.5.26.

There is also aliases for media keys added, some missing evdev keys, and multimedia keys from Linux 2.6.11 and earlier.

Aside from the keysym additions, nothing too notable with the Xorgproto 2025.1 release. As we get ready to close out 2025, the X.Org Server series remains at 21.x.xx with no major feature release now in over four years. Any bets if X.Org Server 26.1 manages to come out next year?
